After a successful Dumsor demonstration in Accra organized by actress Yvonne Nelson, her colleagues in Kumasi replicated the same exercise, which was boycotted by the big shots in the Twi-speaking industry popularly known as Kumawood.
The reason for the boycott according to the Film Producers Association of Ghana (FIPAG) was that, some of the members revealed that, they were promised visas, monies and other benefit if they stayed away from the protest.
“We had calls from some of these same known faces telling us what really went down, that some of them had been threatened not to be there, some of them were promised visas to travel with some entourages to foreign countries”, PRO of FIPAG Ola Michael told Joy FM’s Rythmz A-Z.
According to him, FIPAG will punish the members who were paid to reject the protest. Some producers are likely to be blacklisted.
“They have decided to dissociate themselves from these actors because they don’t see the need to work with them”, Ola Michael said.
