DStv continues to wow its audience with an array of must-watch Emmy Award-winning series that come ‘hot on the heels’ of American premieres! Some of these series are winners in the Emmy Awards 2013, further proving that DStv keeps offering its subscribers the best viewing experience.
This year some of the dramatic series featured on the M-Net and other DStv channels walked away with the Emmys in various categories. These are:
Breaking Bad (M-Net Series Showcase Channel 113, Sundays at 22:30 CAT). The series won an Emmy for Best Drama and Best Supporting Actress. It is the riveting story of Walter White (Bryan Cranston), a struggling high school chemistry teacher who is diagnosed with inoperable lung cancer at the beginning of the series. Facing a prospect of financial ruin, he turns to a life of crime, as he produces and sells methamphetamine with former student, Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul).
Boardwalk Empire (New Season Premieres on M-Net Series Showcase on Thursday 10 October at 21:30 CAT). The series won the Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series Category. This is a crime drama focusing on a political figure who rose to prominence and controlled Atlantic City, in the 1920s and 1930s. He interacts with several historical figures in both his personal and political life, including mobsters, politicians and government agents, while the FBI takes an interest in his extravagance lifestyle.
The Newsroom (M-Net Channel 101 Mondays at 21:30 CAT). The series won an Emmy for Lead Actor in a Drama Series and centers on a cable news anchor (Jeff Daniels), his new executive producer, his newsroom staff and their boss. Together they set out on a patriotic and quixotic mission to do the news well in the face of corporate and commercial obstacles and their own personal entanglements.
Homeland (M-Net Channel 101, season 3 premieres on Monday 14 October at 19:30 CAT). It won an Emmy for Best Actress in a Drama Series and for Best Writing. The series is a psychological thriller that tells the story of Carrie Anderson (Claire Danes), a CIA officer battling her own demons. She becomes convinced that the intelligence that led to the rescue of Scott Brody (Damian Lewis) a U.S. soldier who had been missing and presumed deal for nine years, was a setup and may be connected to an Al Qaeda plot to be carried out on American soil.
There are also new and exciting series that look like serious contenders for the next Emmys which include Ray Donovan (M-Net on Tuesdays at 21:30 CAT), a crime series where Ray Donovan (Liev Schreiber) is a “fixer” for the powerful law firm that represents the rich and famous. However, he experiences his own problems when his father, Mickey Donovan (Jon Voight), is unexpectedly released from prison and FBI agents try to find him in order to bring down Ray and his associates.
Hostages (premieres on M-Net from Tuesday 8 October at 20:00 CAT), is a thrilling and suspenseful new one-hour series about a family caught in the middle of a grand political conspiracy that will change their lives forever.
