The scoop that made the rounds in the grapevine when May 18 was announced as the new date for the VGMAhad it that there was an imminent clash of date and venue for two huge music awards events, the Christian Community Music Awards (CCMA) and the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA).
But a release posted by the organisers of CCMA last week has come to clarify the situation and allay all fears. It’s now confirmed both the VGMA and CCMA will take place on Saturday 18th of May but at different venues. CCMA is slated for National Theatre at 7pm while the Accra International Conference Centre is venue to the VGMA which starts at 9pm.
According to a source close to the organisers, the complication that may arise from contractual agreements and booking engagements of many key players of the 2013 CCMA is the main reason why CCMA organisers are maintaining the same day as the VGMA for their event, though they are aware the buzz around VGMA will cast a shadow on publicity for CCMA.
It will be recalled that, adverts having CCMA as being slated for 18th May began running as well as hype within the gospel music circles on social media when the VGMA was scheduled for April 13. However, by the time VGMA changed its date to 18th May, organisers of CCMA had gone very far preparing for the event. The resolution by the CMMA organisers to keep to 18th May was what generated the rumours of a clash of events to the extent that a possible new date for either of the events was even paraded.
CCMA this year will showcase, celebrate and award the creativity of gospel artistes and gospel songs of diverse forms- worship, praise, choral/hymn, inspirational, reggae, rap, traditional, African and many more-most wanted by gospel music lovers in 2012, the awards year under review. Artistes including O.J, CwesiOteng, Harmonious Chorale, Ps. Helen Yawson, LIC Choir, Em’Praise and Samsong (Nigeria) will grace the CCMA stage.Tickets are available at Sunny FM and all Van J Eye Care branches in Accra for GHc 30 (single) and GHc50 (single VIP or double regular) and will be at the National Theatre gates on the event day, this coming Saturday.
