Shatta Wale

Shatta Wale: Favourite for 2014 Artiste of the Year

By GhanaGist.Com

It’s obvious; this year’s Vodafone Ghana Music Awards will go to the direction of the Reggae/Dancehall genre. However, depending on who wins the ultimate prize, Charter House must publish voting results after the awards.

Below are my predictions for the awards slated for Saturday May 3, 2014! Here we go;

Artiste of the Year

In the 14 years of the awards, no winner of the biggest award had enjoyed massive support and love throughout the year.

History is about to be made as Shatta Wale was the favourite to win the Artiste of the Year even before the nomination list was unveiled.

The description of the category fits Shatta Wale perfectly, he got the highest audience appeal, popularity and performed on every major show and rocked. This is this!

New Artiste of the Year

The VGMA Board decided to put a cap on this category New Artiste of the Year and allow others to swell up. Joey B will knick this one home because his Tonga song was a major success and made the needed impact. No surprises at all!

Highlife Artiste of the Year

Gradually Kwabena Kwabena is losing his grip on the Highlife categories. I have not been impressed with Bisa KDei’s performances and to win the Highlife Artiste of the Year, you need to do some magic which rests with Castro. He is my sure bet!

Gospel Song of the Year

OJ deserves the, Songwriter of the Year but lost it to Bisa KDei.  He will pick the Gospel Song of the Year with his Maye Se Mo Pen. I will also be happy and jubilate if Sonnie Badu picks it for Wonder God.

African Artiste of the Year

Looking at the huge success of Khona by Mafikizolo in Ghana, they are sure bet for African Artiste of the Year. Yes, I expect surprises from Davido, KCee, Wizkid and Flavour. I doubt if people actually vote for this category.

Gospel Artiste of the Year

Sonnie Badu is a wonderful performer and deserves to go home with Gospel Artiste of the Year award. You feel you are closer to God when you attend his shows. Great guy who rocks any time.

Hiplife/Hip Hop Artiste of the Year

So far as Sarkodie remains active in the music scene and churn out hit songs, the Hiplife/Hip Hop Artiste of the Year category will continue to be his.

Afro Pop Song of the Year

I tip Million Pound Girl – Fuse ODG for Afro Pop Song of the Year.

Highlife Song of the Year

Odo Pa by Castro featuring Baby Jet & Kofi Kinaata is my favourite for Highlife Song of the Year ahead of Adult Music – Kwabena Kwabena and Metanfo- Bisa Kdei.

Reggae/Dancehall Song of the Year

Looking at the fact that Shatta Wale was everywhere, it renders this category Reggae/Dancehall Song of the Year an easy win for him and his Dancehall King song.

Vodafone Song of the Year

Any musician who wins Vodafone Song of the Year had won a good category. My pick is on Dancehall King – Shatta Wale. But Guru’ Akaiyida (Boys Abr3) can pick this one for his disappointed in the awards.

Best Collaboration of the Year is very tight. I think Odo Pa – Castro feat. Baby Jet & Kofi Kinaata will urge out my personal favourite Hot Cake -Pope Skinny Feat. Shatta Wale for the nod.
