“Until we change our mentality that every song is made for us to dance, the young musicians will continue to make such songs and not think of making songs with a slow tempo. Take a song like Wogbe by Nat Brew, how many times did you play it on radio?” he observed on the show.
Some radio presenters and DJs have since offence, hence the need to clear and clarify what he actually meant.
In clarifying the issue, he said, “… My attention has been drawn to a publication recently that says that Rex Omar takes a swipe on [at] Ghanaian DJs. That was not my intention at all. What I had wanted to say was, for us to try to play variety so as to be able help the industry… so in my conversation, if any DJ had been offended, I’m sorry, that was not my intention at all. Ever since I started my career, everything I have been doing has nothing to do with myself; it was to grow an industry together. Without DJs, there can never be musicians or musicians will not be heard. And by any case, if during my presentation, any DJ has taken offence, I’m sorry; I would not necessarily take a swipe at anyone [DJ]. Let’s work together and make sure we grow our industry together.”
After 10 years of not releasing any materials, Rex Omar last week dropped a new song Paapa which is already getting rave reviews and rotation on radio.
