The management of Sarkodie has revealed to TotalShowbiz.com reasons behind Sarkodie’s vibrant absence in the official list of nominees for #VGMA14.
Ghana’s hottest artiste and last year’s VGMA artiste of the year, Sarkodie, failed to get the nod at this year’s Vodafone Ghana Music Awards. This development generated an uproar with Sarkodie’s fan base with most enthusiasts questioning the credibility of the whole nominations process.
However, Sammy Forson, a member of the management team of the BET award winner has told TotalShowbiz.com that they specifically asked that Obidi be left out of the nominations.
“First of all, I should say that I wasn’t surprised, I was expecting it because we din not submit any material for nomination this year reason being that looking at the end under review we did not release any material that merits a nomination and we also spent more time focusing on the Rapperholic album which was nominated last year so automatically it couldn’t be nominated.”
He explained that they used the year under review to promote Rapperholic and to ensure the album ‘matures’.
Asked whether he finds it weird that even though Sarkodie was the hottest artiste in the year under review he wasn’t nominated for artiste of the year, he said he doesn’t “find it weird because I told Charterhouse on behalf of the team that we do not want to be nominated. Charterhouse called me a couple of times asking if we indeed we sure of our decision and I just had to reiterate that we do not want to be nominated.”
He added that every nominee on that list deserves to be there and Sarkodie and his team would give the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards all the support they can.
Sammy Forson, speaking in a personal capacity, later told TotalShowbiz his biggest surprise with the nominations was the fact that E.L didn’t make it for artiste of the year.
“If you go to South Africa, E.L is one of our biggest exports, he’s had a very good year for himself and for that he deserves a pat on his shoulder.”
Sarkodie has just released ‘Y’all already know’, the latest single of the Sarkology album which is due in August. Listen and download below:
