Uche Ofodile joins Facebook as Africa Regional Head, Africa for Express Wifi

Senior Business leader and immediate past CEO of Tigo DRC, Uche Ofodile, has joined Facebook as the Regional Head, Africa for Express Wifi.

Announcing her new role on her Facebook page, Uche wrote, “Today, I’m happy to announce that I am joining Facebook as the Regional Head, Africa for Express Wi-Fi.

She went on further to provide details about the role: “A key component of internet.org’s mission is to connect the two thirds of the world that is not already connected. And the goal of Express Wi-Fi is to help expand connectivity to underserved locations around the world through Wi-Fi. Not only do we aim to increase the number of internet users; we will also help create and empower local entrepreneurs”, she explained.

She was proud of the work done by the Express Wifi team. “I am so proud of the work the team has done so far and we will continue to build on this in Africa. I am super excited to be joining the team”, she exclaimed.

Uche has extensive expertise in building businesses in emerging markets. In particular she is well noted for her contributions to transforming both Tigo DRC and Vodafone Ghana when she was the CEO and CMO respectively.

Within 18 months as the CEO of Tigo DRC, she rebuilt the business strategy, ignited 20% year-on-year growth, positioned the company for rapid market share gains, and revitalized the workforce through strategic cultural and diversity programmes. These strong commercial results catalyzed the acquisition of the company by Orange, the French multinational telecom giant, to deliver significant value to shareholders.

In Ghana, one of her hallmark achievements was the transformation of Vodafone Ghana from a struggling business, with deteriorating market share, into the country’s second biggest telecommunications provider. As the Chief Marketing Officer, Uche was instrumental in delivering three consecutive years of double-digit revenue growth, resulting in significant awards such as “Telecommunications Company of the Year,” “Best Telecom Brand,” and “Most Admired Brand.”

She continues to follow her passion of nurturing and empowering the next generation of leaders and most recently hosted twenty middle/senior level career women to talk about their careers over brunch.
