Following the publication of the article captioned “Checking the credibility of Television Awards Ghana”, Mr George Bosompim, the second Vice President of the awards that was instituted to honour excellence in the Television Industry in Ghana has come out to speak on the credibility of the awards.
The Second Vice President of the first ever Television Awards Ghana George Bosompim over the weekend broke the faculty’s silence about the awards scheme on Adom 106.3fm with regards to their meetings and work.
George Bosompim who was answering questions about a feature that read ‘checking the credibility of the awards’ disclosed that the award is designed by the television industry players for the television industry.
He said: ‘It is more of industry players coming together to create an award for themselves. There has been so many awards organized for us by people but with this one, the industry players decided to come together to honour excellence, he noted.
George explained that the whole television family is part of this noble award scheme. It is an award designed to promote the core values of television broadcasting therefore has a strong structure to check transparency and accuracy.
The Trustee is made up of veterans in the television industry and also the faculty is made up of representatives from all television stations including those who produce content for television stations.
In explaining the categorization, the second vice of the faculty stressed that because it is an industry awards, the popular categories are limited as compared to the industry ones.
Responding to the credibility question concerning the awards, George Bosompim mentioned that the award is very transparent and credible because of these reasons; first of all the caliber of people on the board of trustee.
The board has names that will not just support anything because their credibility will be on the line. Secondly, the faculty is made up of television reps (two each) and these are the same people who are going to vote on each category.
Thirdly, among the faculty and the board we know what is good; we think that as producers, directors and content people we need to challenge our work for us to raise the standard in television for our viewers therefore we are looking out for exceptional works to reward.
Also George Bosompim made it clear that it does not matter whose idea is been worked on. The television Awards Ghana is a good idea and the whole television industry have accepted it and supporting it fully; he made this clear when asked the company behind the awards.
We are told that the first ever television awards Ghana is set to release its nomination list very soon; the organizers called for nominations through the various television stations we have in the country hence if your favourite TV show does not make it to the final list, it means either the TV station did not submit it or the show fell below standard.
The Television Awards Ghana event will be held in two parts; on the 4th of October will be the Industry Awards and 10th of October is the Prime Time Awards at the National Theater.
Follow the awards on social media for up to date information and whether your favourite TV show or presenter was nominated.
