On Friday, October 21, 2016 Ghana returns to the iconic Indigo 02 Arena in London after Shatta Wale rocked the place in August with BET Awards winner Stonebwoy; veteran Highlife musician Amakye Dede and the reigning VGMA 2016 Artiste of the year EL for the Ghana Music Week, UK (GMW-UK).
The announcement was made during the Media Launch at the Ghana High Commission in London last Thursday, August 25, 2016. The launch attracted various media personnel and even managers in and around the UK.
GMW-UK seeks to create the biggest platform in the UK, to market Ghanaian music and tourism, and in the process attract targeted tourist traffic from the UK to Ghana for the main Festival.
The Ghana Music Week, UK (GMW-UK) is organized under the tutelage of Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) in partnership with Fantasy Entertainment and Showbiz Africa.
“After four years of organizing GMW in Ghana, the team moved into achieving another of its key goals of using the platform to market Ghanaian music & tourism to the world”, CEO of Fantasy Entertainment, Leslie Quaynor said.
Last year the Ghana Music Week, USA was launched at the Ghana Embassy in Washington DC and Mount Vernon in New York; it culminated in a very successful concert at the B.B. Kings Hall, New York on October 17, 2015.
“As a result of GMW-US, over 187 guests from the U.S and eight Foreign Missions in Ghana participated in the 2016 GMW in March this year. This big impact within a short period influenced a strong case to push an agenda for an even wider reach, hence the decision for GMW-UK”, he added.
The 2017 edition of the Ghana Music Week Festival coincides with Ghana’s Diamond Jubilee Celebrations. The CEO of CEO of Fantasy Entertainment promised to give detailed information about the celebrations on October 21 at the Indigo O2.
Seven other artistes would join the headline artistes, including a top Ghanaian live band and a cultural troupe to sell Ghanaian music to the world.
The UK Ambassador for GMW, Abrantee Boateng popularly known as DJ Abrantee of Capital Xtra would do a 4-hour presentation of the #StoryofGHMusic from its many styles, traditional and modern forms, including the official celebration of the famous #AzontoDance.

Ms Zuwera Ibrahim, the Head of Information & Media Relations at the Ghana High Commission echoed the Commission’s pledge to ensure GMW-UK becomes an annual event and a significant one on the calendar of Ghanaian events in the UK.
The Minister for Tourism, Culture & Creative Arts, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, in a video message, urged all Ghanaians to support GMW-UK.
DJ Abrantee ended by extending the team’s utmost gratitude to the Ghana High Commission for its support, especially, His Excellency Victor Emmanuel Smith, Ms Zuwera Ibrahim and Mr David Quaye.
