Hard work pays! Shatta Wale is Ghana’s Artiste of the Year at the just ended 15th Vodafone Ghana Music Awards. The awards were held on Saturday, May 3, 2014 at the Accra International Conference Centre.

His hard work in the year under review was paid off as he picked three awards; Reggae/Dancehall Song of the Year, Most Popular Song of the Year with his biggest song, Dancehall King and including the biggest award at this year’s awards, Artiste of the Year.

He beat his fiercest rival Samini to pick his third award on the night. Also included in the category were Castro, Kwabena Kwabena, Sonnie Badu and Sarkodie.

Sarkodie was the biggest winner on the night with four awards. He picked the Hip Hop Song of the Year with Lies featuring Lil’ Shaker, Hiplife/Hip Hop Artiste of the Year with Down On One and Best Rapper of the Year.

His Sarkology album also won the Album of the Year nod. Ghana’s International Gospel artiste, Sonnie Bau managed to see-off competition from OJ and Joyce Blessing for the Best Male Vocal Performance and Gospel Artiste of the Year awards.

Radio personality KOD and musician Eazzy returned to host the awards. The hosted it last year.

There were impressive performances from Unsung Artiste, MzVee, OJ, Sonnie Badu, Kwabena Kwabena, Stonebwoy, Jupiter, Samini, Sarkodie, Joey B, Castro, Bisa Kdei and Kofi Kinaata.

The olden days were re-visited with rapper Okomfour Kwadee, highlife great Daseebre Dwamena and Cindy Thomson, whose soul-inspiring songs charmed Ghanaians in the early 2000s.

Davido who picked the African Artiste of the Year and compatriot Iyanya represented the Nigerian brand with great performances.
