The grand finale of season 4 of the Close Up Salsa Fiesta was held on Friday, August 22, 2014 at the independence Square with Takoradi winning this year’s edition of the competition.
After weeks of learning the new Salsa dance movements, Salsa dancers; Isaac Gozah and Ama Afanso Abedi from Takoradi were adjudged winners of Close Up Salsa Fiesta Season 4 dubbed “Freshness Dance Revolution” after beating off competition of dancers from Accra and Kumasi.
The three major cities in Ghana; Accra, Kumasi and Takoradi competed to win the bragging rights at the grand final of the Close-Up Salsa Fiesta competition.
The Close-Up Salsa Fiesta has been going on for a while now, but this year’s event dubbed the “Freshness Dance Revolution” has lived up to its name- a revolution.
It introduced the newest dance form; easy-to-learn salsa moves fused with local contemporary dance, and took the dance known as the Close-Up Salsa Fusion Dance on tour to Takoradi, Kumasi and Accra during the preliminaries.
Dance lovers in Takoradi in the Western Region had the first share of the cake when the Close Up Salsa Team landed with all readiness to teach fusion dances to interested groups and individuals. Many people trooped in to join and to learn the various new additions to Salsa Dance.
The next stop on the tour was in Kumasi where the group selection was a night to remember.
The final preliminary event took place in Accra where as in the previous ones in Takoradi and Kumasi, many Salsa lovers joined to learn to sharpen their skills and to stake a claim to which among them would be selected to represent Accra at the grand finale.
The salsa fusion dance brought fresh breath of air into the social circles, adding up to the already existing formation dances that stir up excitement at social gatherings. It is made up of easy-to-do salsa basic steps fused with local dance types such as Azonto, Alkaida, Highlife, etc.
The dance has five main moves: Salzonto (Salsa + Azonto), Salkaida (Salsa + Alkaida), Salhighlife or Sallife (Salsa + Highlife), Salchoman (Salsa + Chowman) and Salmezop or Salzop (Salsa + Mezop).
This is the first time Takoradi is winning the event. Kumasi and Accra have respectively shared the winning prizes of two years ago and last year.
For their prize, Isaac and Ama walked away with GHC8.000 out of the GHC30.000 at stake at the grand finale. First and second runners up got GHC4.000 and GHC2.000 respectively.
The patrons were entertained by “Koene” hitmaker Edem, who aside his splendid performance actually proved that, he can dance as well. He danced and the large patrons cheered. Sarkodie also gave the fans what they wanted.
Joy FM’s DJ Black made sure there were no dull moments on the night. KOD of Radio Gold and GhOne TV’s Bella gelled well as MCs.
