Do you know what constitute a marriage under the laws of the Republic of Ghana? Do you know the legal forms of marriage in Ghana?
On Law Express this Sunday 10th January 2016 at 6.30pm on Metro TV, moderator Nuhela Seidu and her panel will take a look at marriages in Ghana with focus on the Mohammedan marriages, otherwise referred to as Islamic Marriage.
Islamic marriage is a kind of marriage that is made in accordance with Islamic rules regarding marriage. Marriages made under Islamic law may be polygynous. A marriage made under Islamic rules must also be registered under the Marriages Act, in order to be valid. The Registrar of Mohammedan marriages and divorces must be notified within one week of the marriage, or else the marriage will be declared null and void. However the Law provides for certain actions for instances where it is impossible for all the necessary parties to attend at the Registrar’s office within a week.
This week’s panel will include Justice Abdulai, a former lecturer at the Distance Education Centre of the University of Ghana who specialised in Labour Law, Company law and Commercial Law. He will be joined by Osman Alhassan, who holds a LLB from University of Ghana, a BL and a practicing License from the Ghana School of Law and a General Counsel of LADA group of Companies.
