A new reality TV show dubbed Supermom designed to celebrate the African mother was launched at the Golden Tulip Hotel, Accra last Friday.
The show is an initiative of Digital Interactive Media Limited (DIM), a Nigerian based media outlet.
In a speech at the launch, Mr Sola Fajobi, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of DIM, said the reality show which was berthed in 2010 in Nigeria and currently in its fourth season aims at celebrating African mothers of all socio economic class for their unflinching love and uncompromising care for their children.
“The show is about celebrating extra ordinary mothers with extraordinary stories. Stories about sacrifices, unconditional love, hope, believing above all odds among others.
“However, the first season in Ghana is dubbed Celebrity Edition where 20 Ghanaian celebrities in sports, music, film, radio, TV among others are given the opportunity to celebrate their mothers.
He said the show will be in a docu-drama format where the celebrities will share experiences of why their mother is the best. A special interview will be conducted for the mothers while professional actors will re-enact the stories.
Some of the celebrities who will feature in the reality show are radio and TV personalities, Nat Attoh, Caroline Simpson and Jay Foley; actors Kwaku Manu, Agya Koo, Ecow Smith Asante, Emmanuel Armah, Lil Win, Emelia Brobbey, Kofi Adjorlolo among others.
“Each episode will feature two stories and viewers will vote for their choice weekly to qualify for the final. The top three winning stories will be rewarded with amazing prizes.
The one-hour Supermom which will start showing from October 13 on some major TV stations such as UTV, Metro TV and GhOne will be aired once a week for 13 weeks.
The reality show was unveiled by Dr Ellen Hagan, Charted Institute of Marketing (CIMG) Woman of the Year 2012 and Vlisco Ambassador. MC for the night was Gbenga Adeyinka I, a veteran Nigerian comedian.
