Ghanaians must not wait for his demise, then fold their arms or chock their palms under their chins and snap their fingers and say they should have done something for him when he was alive.
Who is he? I’m talking about Hammer of the Last Two Music Group.
Real name Nana Poku, Hammer was one of the few producers who saw the birth of Hip Life. He has discovered and nurtured several Hiplifers with many hits over the years.
Official theme song ‘Y3da W’ase (We Thank You)’ featuring Obrafour, Sarkodie, Tinny, Edem and Kwaw Kese for the “Celebrating Hammer Concert” is out.
Sarkodie started by rapping that, Hammer didn’t wait for him to become ‘somebody’ before helping him. He went on to say that, Hammer did not also allow him to go hungry. After few lines, he runs through names of artistes to have had a stint with Hammer.
After the chorus from Hammer’s senior artiste, Obrafour, it was the mad man – Kwaw Kese’s turn to pour out his lyrics. He rapped about many things including been warned by Hammer not to pay heed to anyone who taunts him instead “Do what you dey do and move on // make more sika, life is too short.//
Ewe rapper Edem then took over. Of course, you know what he’s capable of doing right? He went on and on and on just like that in Ewe-rap-fashion. He ended the long Ewe rap with //Hammer, you make I get money, I dey for you, one King Size for you//.
Now it’s the turn of arguably the biggest Ga rapper in Ghana, Tinny. According to him, he wanted to rap in Twi but Hammer advised him to stay with her mother tongue – Ga language, one advice Tinny listened to and we all know how he has benefited.
Now listen to the song below:
