Miss Ghana 2013 ambassador, Nadia Ntanu, has graced a special inauguration ceremony of a child protection centre at the Catholic-run institute, Don Bosco.
Ntanu was part of a core of specially invited persons for the inauguration of the first-ever Child Protection Centre (CPC) in Ghana under the auspices of the Don-Bossco Technical and Vocational Training Institute spearheaded by the Salesians of Don Bosco under the West Africa Province
The facility, a state of the art building, is two-storey each, with sick bay and a cafeteria.
The centre among other things is to help rehabilitate neglected and vulnerable street children as well as provide psychological, social and academic training.
All 35 students of the institution are to benefit, officials say.
It is being funded by both international and local partners as well as groups within the Catholic Church.
A significant event, it ties its chord to the relationship between the Miss Ghana brand, and the Don Bosco institution. Inna Mariam Patty, current chairwoman of the Miss Ghana pageant, has always had a symbiotic relationship with them.
‘The Miss Ghana Foundation is committed to bringing relief to society’s less privileged. We are hopeful the goodwill that exits between us will enable us to do greater things together,’ she said.
The Director of the CPC, Rev. Akinyemi Mathew expressed their heartfelt gratitude to all donors and partners for their continuous support and interest in the welfare of the Ghanaian child.
He made a plea to Ms. Nadia Ntanu to use her position as Brand Ambassador for Miss Ghana /Miss Ghana Foundation to support the centre.
She promised the Foundation would assist the centre in any way possible especially in the area of feeding.
Miss Inna Patty, CEO of Miss Ghana Foundation was also applauded for her significant role in securing a land and raising funds for the construction of a female dormitory building for the Don. Bosco Vocational Training Institute.
Other dignitaries present at the occasion included, the Deputy Minister of Gender & Social Protection, Hon. Alexandra Ackon, Ms. Katharine Unger, representative of Jugend Eine Welt, Austria, AFW Provincial, Rev. Fr. Jorge Crisafulli.
