The continent’s biggest football stars past and present will join forces with Michael Essien in taking on a World XI in an exhibition match to inspire and give hope to Africans that one day peace will prevail on the continent. The match is live on SuperSport 3 from 17:00 CAT on Saturday 8 June.
A peace ambassador for the African Union, Essien is using the continents biggest unifier, football, to get the message to Africans that it’s themselves who need to start the peace process on the continent. Proceeds from the match will be used to fund activities of the Michael Essien Foundation’s charity outreach programme at Awutu Breku, in the Central Region.
The Africa IV team will comprise of footballers such as Michael Essien, Daniel Pappoe, Geremi Njitap, Stephen Appiah, Tony Yeboah, Nwankwo Kano, Samuel Osei Kuffour, George Weah, Didier Drogba, Salomon Kalou, Yaya Toure, Adebayor, Dede Ayew, Jay Jay Okocha and Richard Kingston.
The World IV team will be represented by Kaka, Michael Ballack, John Terry, Luca Modric, Florent Malouda, James Hubert Lawrence, David Ginola, Makalele, Quincy Abeyie, Scott Smith, Ricardo Cavalho, Mark Bright and David Ginola.
