The Board of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards on Tuesday, February 23 held a press conference at the World Trade Centre to address some pertinent issues before the official release of this year’s nominees.
On issues concerning Dancehall act, Charles Nii Armah Jnr popularly known as Shatta Wale who has constantly denigrated the scheme over the past 2 years, the Board decided to disqualify him from this year’s awards.
According to Mrs Theresah Ayoade, the Executive Director of Charterhouse, the decision to exclude Shatta Wale is to enable him complete his apology process that he has started for maligning the VGMA Board.
“After 2 years of publicly campaigning about not wanting to be included in the awards and recording and posting of materials that tarnished and denigrated the image of the scheme, he has presented an entry for nomination.
The Board however thinks it is the first step to redeeming himself from his denigration of the scheme. He has not completed the process.
The Board wants to encourage him to conclude the process he has started, which will include a public apology to the Board and the scheme”, she said.
