The fourth Ghana UK based Achievement (GUBA) Awards  that seek to celebrate the British Ghanaian Community and also reward outstanding Ghanaians at home andin the United Kingdom (UK), has been launched in Accra.

The awards, which were instituted in October 2010, showcase and provide engaging platform for promoting greater cultural diversity in the UK, as well as raising the profile of Ghana.

Speaking at the launch in Accra, the Founder of GUBA, Ms Dentaa Amoateng, said the awards sought to honour brilliance and achievements within the British Ghanaian Community and also the exceptional services provided by Ghanaians at home and in the UK.

The launch, held at the residence of the British High Commissioner to Ghana, was attended by high-profiled personalities including a former Information Minister, Mr Fritz Baffour.

The GUBA Awards Ceremony will take place at the Park Plaza Riverbank Hotel on November 16, 2013. This year’s ceremony is sponsored by RLG, Armajaro, MoneyGram, Invest In Africa, Blavo and Co, Gamank Group, the British High Commission Accra, Homestrings, MYGAPPAEL and Arik air.

Ms Amoateng said GUBA had also set up a charity foundation with a focus to raise awareness of autism within black and ethnic communities both in the UK and Ghana, adding that proceeds from the GUBA 2013 Awards would be donated to the Autism Awareness Care and Training Centre in Accra.

In his welcome address, the British High Commissioner, Mr Peter Jones, said “many Ghanaians are contributing to the economic development of Britain and it was important that they were recognised and celebrated”

He,therefore, commended the organiser for putting in place an awards to celebrate Ghanaian archievers, whose contribution both in Ghana and in the UK had led to the growth of the two countries.

About the awards

The GUBA Awards categories are divided into red, gold, green and black star representing the Ghana flag and the red category which includes Business and Enterprise award to be given to Corporate Business of the Year.

Invest in Africa Sustainable Business Award would be given to Agro Mindset Organisation and RLG Development Award.

The rest are Gamank Group Home award, Homestrings Small Emerging Business, and Blavo and Co Young Entrepreneur award.

The Gold category has artist of the year award, Young and Talented and African Fusion and Designer award.

The Green category also has the British High Commission Best Charity Award, MoneyGram Best Ghanaian Association and GUBA Rising Star award.

The Black category has GUBA Community Champion, Student Achiever, Enterprise Mogul, Exceptional Achievement and Outstanding Achievement award.
