The second edition of the Golden Movie Awards Africa (GMAA) organized by NMJ Ghana has been held at the Kempinski Hotel Accra on Saturday June 25, 2016 with Ghana winning majority of the awards.
Ghana won 23 out of the 29 keenly contested categories at the awards with Nigeria’s film industry popularly known as Nollywood; Africa’s biggest film industry winning only 6.
Nana Obiri Yeboah, director of The Cursed Ones who picked the Best Director a fortnight ago at the 12th Africa Movie Academy Award in Port Harcourt, Nigeria was adjudged the Best Director beating Biyi Bandele (Fifty), Frank Rajah (Ghana Must Go), Walt Banger (GbomoGbomo Express) and Pascal Amanfo (Candle In The Wind).
The movie also won the Overall Best Movie nod as well as the Best Art Director and Golden Supporting Actress (Drama) for Ama .K. Abebrese.

Yvonne Okoro’s Ghana Must Go won 4 awards including Golden Supporting Actress (Comedy) for Doris Sackitey, Golden Actress (Comedy) and Golden Story (Comedy) for Yvonne Okoro and Golden Supporting Actor (Comedy) for Kofi Adjorlolo.
Beautiful Ruins, written by Eddie Nartey won him the Golden Writer as well as Golden Make Up for Issabella Awun and Golden Supporting Actor (Drama) for Fred Amugi.
From Shampaign, Joselyn Dumas won the Golden Actress (TV Series) and Overall Golden (TV Series). Fastest growing Ghanaian actress Zynnell Zuh was awarded the Best Actress in a Drama for her role in Anniversary which also won the Golden Story award in Drama.
Nigeria’s 6 awards on the night includes Golden Sound Editor won by Puis Fakoke (Fifty), Golden Indigenous won by (Dara), Golden Short Film won by Femi Adebayo for Alima, Golden Editor won by Matthew Bate for Fifty, Golden Story (Drama) won by Afe Olumowe for Anniversary and Golden Actor (Drama) won by Gideon Okeke for Gbomogbomo Express.
However actor Blossom Chukwujeku won the Golden Actor (TV Series) category for his role in Shirley Frimpong Manso’s Shampaign.
The Golden Movie Awards Africa is the annual awards that honour the achievements in Africa Television, digital media and film industry.
The award was hosted by Anita Erskine and comedian DKB. Rapper Okyeame Kwame and Afro-Pop crew, The Darlings rocked the event.
