This year’s Citi Power Walk came off successfully on Saturday, February 1. The event, the second in the series, climaxed the Citi FM Healthy Lifestyle Promotion which ended on Friday, February 31.
Hundreds of people from all walks of life were joined by some keep fit clubs and personnel from the various security agencies to walk up and down the Aburi Mountain in a bid to promote regular exercise routines among Ghanaians.
Some participants have asked Citi FM to include the Power Walk in the stations regular event schedule for the year.
According to Williams Nana Kyei, a sports administrator, ‘the Citi Power Walk is an event which has brought so many people together to exercise in a fun way. I believe it shouldn’t be a once a year event. I think Citi FM should make it a quarterly event since it will go a long way to encourage the masses to exercise.”
Miss Akua Seiwaa Daaku, an educationist, also asked for an encore. “Most of us want to exercise regularly but the motivation is usually very low. With events like this, we can join other health-conscious people to burn some calories. Citi FM should make it a regular event. I think if it’s organized every month, it will do us a lot of good.”
Speaking to a cross-section of the media after the event, Programmes Manager of Citi FM – Jessica Opare Saforo, acknowledged the calls for more walks to be organized.
“We have heard various calls for the frequency of the Citi Power Walk to be increased. We want people to exercise more and stay healthy. So we will work on it. It’s our contribution to building a healthier society,” she said.
The Citi Power Walk started from Ayi Mensah to the Peduase Lodge and back. There was an aerobics session led by a fitness instructor. The walk was spiced up by a brass band which provided energetic music to keep the fun going.
