At a press conference held on Thursday 27th February 2014 at the Hathramani Sports Hall at the Accra Sports Stadium, Africa’s premier sports broadcaster, SuperSport Africa, announced its partnership with Box Office Sports Promotions to broadcast live the much anticipated boxing bout between Brimah Kamoko alias Bukom Banku and Ayitey Powers.
The bout will be produced and broadcast live by SuperSport Africa on the DStv and GOtv networks to over 2.9 million viewers across Africa whilst an estimated 1 million Ghanaians will watch the fight live on TV3, the official Ghanaian local Free to Air broadcast partner for the bout.
The General Manager of MultiChoice Ghana Limited, Mr. Cecil Sunkwa-Mills said “SuperSport’s partnership with Box Office Sports Promotions to present the bout to boxing lovers is to demonstrate SuperSport’s commitment to support the development of other sporting disciplines in Ghana, aside from football. Ghana is traditionally, one of the major boxing countries on our continent and it is definitely key for support to be directed into the sport. SuperSport’s investment in the production and live broadcast will be significant in helping expose and develop the sport with its stakeholders”.
Dubbed as “The Judgment Night”, the boxing bout between the two Ghanaian boxers currently will take place at the Accra Sports Stadium on 18th April 2014 and promises to attract a record attendance of over 10,000 spectators.
Expressing his excitement about the partnership, the Chief Executive Officer of Box Office Sports Promotions, Mr. Alex Ntiamoah-Boakye said “The partnership with SuperSport is a step in the right direction not only for the exposure for the boxers and my outfit but for the development of Ghana boxing. I am looking forward to more of such collaborations with SuperSport in the future”.
The Brands Manager of TV Network Limited, Mr. Felix Dontoh, said “TV3 is passionate about sports and we strive to bring to our viewers the best in sports programming. A couple of years ago, we had a reality show which focused on boxing and that unearthed several hidden talents. As our philosophy, we will continue to provide our viewers with great content at all times”.
On their part, both boxers were confident of victory on the night and assured their fans and the entire nation of a great showdown. Brimah Kamoko alias Bukom Banku predicted a 7th round victory whilst Ayitey Powers promised an early knockout win for him.
