The Ashanti Regional Minister Hon Simon Osei-Mensah is to launch the Christiana Addo Memorial Foundation (CAMF) in memory of the late mother of the MUSIGA President Bice Osei Kuffour aka Obour. The event takes place on October 30 in Juaso to commemorate the one year anniversary of the passing of Madam Christiana Addo.
CAMF will support brilliant students who are financially handicapped especially the girl child from the deprived rural communities of Juaso and adjourning communities through the provision of scholarships at the tertiary level. The CAMF is also to promote sanitation and personal hygiene as critical pillars to health, survival, and development in the Asante Akyem area.
According to Obour, the decision to establish the foundation is due to his mum’s selflessness and strong, unshakable conviction in education as a lifeline to poverty eradication. He says, knowing the value of education, his mother endured enormous sacrifices to educate him and his siblings.
The MUSIGA President added that the establishment of the foundation is also to celebrate the unwavering and strong leadership qualities of Christiana Addo as a role model for all women especially single mothers.
Expanding on the objectives of the foundation, he noted that CAMF intends to organize skills training and empowerment programs for the youth of Asante Akyem to enable them have a meaningful voice in the general issues of education, sanitation for the sustainable development of the Asante Akyem area and Ghana as a whole.
Obour says the desire of the family to establish the foundation is borne out of the fact that his mother paid the school fees of many poor families who reached out to her and was paying the school fees of many young people at the time of her death hence their decision to continue her work. He also spoke about his mother’s keen interest in people’s personal hygiene and sanitation since she believed that was a means of staying healthy and increasing life-spans.
The launch of the foundation will climax the one year commemoration of the death of Madam Christiana Addo which takes place in Juaso from October 28 and 29 with the launching of the foundation on Monday October 30.
The foundation which will be governed by a Board of Executives and run by a management team will be financed through an investment fund established for the foundation with an initial seed capital of $10,000.00 to be provided by the family of the late Christiana Addo. This will be supported with periodic contributions into the special education investment fund which will be open to the public to invest in.
In addition to this, the family will hold an annual Christiana Addo Fundraising Dinner and Asante Akyem Development Ball. These will all be backed with donations and grants from companies and philanthropists.
