AFCON 2015: “He was sick, but he played 90 minutes and scored in the end” | Avram Grant on Asamoah Gyan after scoring an injury-time winner against Algeria

Ghana coach Avram Grant has eulogized Al Ain and Black Stars striker Asamoah Gyan for his “fantastic attitude” on the pitch.

The Captain returned from illness to score an injury time winner against Algeria in Ghana’s second Group C match to boost Black Stars’ chances in the on-going AFCON 2015 in Equatorial Guinea.

Speaking at a post-match interview, Grant praised him.

“Asamoah is a great player, and he has a fantastic attitude.”

“He was sick, but he played 90 minutes and scored in the end.”

“He’s a great player, but also a great personality. It’s not only the victory of a player, but a whole team.”

According to winger Andre Ayew, Ghana’s tactical switch at half-time paved the way for Ghana’s victory.

“We just wanted to win this game, we won it the hard way in the last minute,” he said. “The coach changed tactics to play more offensively, because we had to win. I am not surprised we won, we had the quality to win.”

Grant’s men will qualify to the next stage after a win over South Africa who managed a draw with Senegal in their second match.
